Idk how to tell you this but it’s unreasonable to expect a novel written 3 decades ago to align with today’s understanding of representation and respect.

i think it's sleight of hand to suggest that the complaints many people (not just i!) have with sbb can be reduced to "representation and respect" rather than observations about the politics that informed its writing, but even if we grant this: why would anyone recommend a book that they agree is wildly inadequate by contemporary standards as first-line reading for lesbians? if there is such a failure to "align" with "today's understanding", what on earth makes it the go-to introductory text that it is so often shilled as? better to give it an honest elevator pitch—it is a semi-autobiographical historical document, with some interesting and compelling things to say but also with all the perspectival limitations that that entails, about one kind of lesbian experience in a few parts of the usa in one part of the 20th century.

Hello! I was rereading your self aware series and I got to Wild’s and was like “Wait a minute… I know the boys don’t hold anything against reader for playing their games a lot but… what if reader was just a really bad gamer?” So like, I’m terrible at video games. But I love to play them! So I was wondering if the self aware boys could really not hold anything against reader if reader was just exceptionally bad at their game and caused them lots of pain? For example, I killed Link (ACCIDENTALLY) about 8 times last night during a single shrine… and that’s just my average gaming experience. I was just curious if the boys ever get mad or something after falling off a bridge for the gazillionth time whenever bad gamer reader grabs the controller. Is it like a love hate relationship? Like they go “Yes! My love has graced me with their presence!” *The realization hits.* “Oh no… not again.”

There really isn't much that they could hold against you, because when they've fallen for you, they're more than a bit delusional. Anyway you play the game in their minds is just you spending time with them. with that said though I honestly think they'd also blame themselves for getting hurt, are their controls that hard? what are they doing wrong? can they make it any easier for you? Sure they got hurt but you healed them!!!! they're so delusional that even just hurting them for fun can be rationalised in their minds (not that you would right? right???)

but I said not much right? well something they would hate you (or more themselves) for though? Rage quitting. They would rather you sitting there laughing, repeatedly intentionally killing them over you leaving the game like that. Because then you aren't with them, they're back in control of their own body because their game was too hard for you to play. it's their fault you abandoned them. They don't care how you spend time on their game just that you do and they respect that you can't play 24/7, they understand that! but quitting because it's too hard destroys them.

Plus some other doodles! Not super in-depth, I didn't set out to think too deeply about it... but the Idle pose is what it would look like on the main menu/other areas where the sprites are relaxed, and the Battle Ready pose is the little animation the characters go into on a map. (The first drawing was meant to be the Battle Ready one, but! Changed my mind.)

I think the idea of Moe swapping expressions between the main poses is really cute, ESP if the expressions are opposites. Like you see characters go from a serious expression into an >:0 expression (and similarly, a smile into :D ), but I'm not sure if there's any that go from smiling to frowning/pouting... I really like the characterization of it, actually. Beyond how expressive it is in general, on a conceptual level, Moe is about balancing (if not mishmashing) opposite traits.

Any which way, the drawing I colored in is Exactly what I was envisioning for a Moe sprite! Which. I kind of alluded to w my attempt at a sprite edit (separate post). Moe would need a whole ass custom sprite. From its outfit to its pose (doesn't quite match Kiran's/the other Summoners you can pick from!). Plus, it's a staff user who has a tendency to do raptor hands (or ghost sleeves, or gay limp wrist......). I feel like its sprite would be smaller than the standard Summoners, too. Like Legendary Nohrian Corrin (being oddly smaller than all the other f!Corrins!)

I am... thinking deeply about it........

dunno if you've ever been asked, but what are your thoughts on z-one? He's one of my favorite final boss villains in YGO but I know (especially for a while) people didn't like him due to the fakeout of not being an evil Yusei.

Hey there! As a matter of fact, I have not been asked. I think Z-ONE's a fine antagonist, frankly. The setup to get to him takes a while, but the reveal when he finally shows up is pretty good where I'm concerned. (Of course, some things about him are plagued by the same plotholes as the entire WRGP—mostly, the scope of his "godlike" powers is very, very unclear. But since it adds a lot of pizzazz, I can usually overlook it.) Moreover, I think the initial reveal of his face—where it's unclear whether or not he's Yusei at first—is perfect, because it really throws you for a loop.

That said, I'm a bit in two minds about the identity thing. On one hand, I get why people wanted him to be Yusei, as in, the actual, real Yusei, who was simply pushed to his limits by a horrid, inescapable future. The sheer amount of angst would have been unparalleled. And it would have posed the very interesting question of just what it would take to push Yusei, our very own protagonist, that far. After all, he's the hero, he's the one preaching hope and friendship even when everyone else has given up on it already. Just the implications alone of a person like Yusei—Yusei—being pushed far enough to become the villain would have been downright cataclysmic. It would have sold the sheer hopelessness of the Meklord future like nothing else. So I get why people wanted it to be true, there's certainly potential there.

But at the same time... I'm not sure I can bring myself to see it. And a lot of that has to do with what canon presents us before the big reveal of Z-ONE's face already. First, there's the fact that it's Yusei. As I said, this is the guy who's all-in on loyalty, hope, and friendship even when nobody else is. It is arguably one of his, if not the defining trait he has. To topple that unwaveringness by implying even he could be pushed to give up on these things... I don't know if it might not have soured his character a bit in some people's eyes. Even if it might have been more realistic, even if it might have been human. Then, there's also the things we get about Z-ONE, as a character, before the reveal. And yes, I concede that's very little, but frankly? It's enough to make him feel like he absolutely couldn't be Yusei to me. Like yes, granted, the unavoidable future of despair™ would have probably changed his personality somewhat, but to that degree? Z-ONE acts nothing like Yusei to me. His tactics in manipulating Sherry, the way he speaks with Aporia during their duel, hell, the sodding Timelords he plays. I mean, sure, obviously they gave him a completely different deck so they could a.) sell more cards and so b.) the reveal could be delayed a little longer for more tension, but something about the idea that Yusei, had he actually been Z-ONE, would have completely abandoned his old deck, kept not even a single card, not even Stardust, or Speed Warrior, or Scrap-Iron Scarecrow, doesn't sit right with me. And that's obviously not touching on the timeline shenanigans that don't quite match up, because Z-ONE's ruined future is implied to be far away enough to exceed Yusei's own lifespan. (Now, if they had actually written Z-ONE to act more like Yusei, and to perhaps, damningly, have kept some of Yusei's cards, I might have been more on board with the idea.)

I don't know, I might be in the minority there, but I think Z-ONE was fine the way he was in canon. We got the shock moment of him possibly being Yusei without delving into either the emotional can of worms, nor the timeline nonsense can of worms that would have come with him actually being Yusei. Z-ONE is an excellent, end-of-show antagonist to me, with or without that extra angst. I don't usually like fakeouts that much, either, but this one, I'll happily tolerate. (Though I would argue the guy could have used just a smidgen more setup and would be even stronger if not for the nonsense worldbuilding of the Meklords. But everyone and their mother who knows my blog knows how I feel about the Meklords, worldbuilding-wise.)

sort of echoed this on my sb, but – seeing how watcher "fans" used steven as a scapegoat and as a target of their hate wasn't the first time i saw an asian content creator get fucked over moreso than their peers. BUT it was the first time in the content creating space that i clearly pieced together in my brain,

oh. a lot of people, if they feel entitled and righteous enough to attack someone they don't know online, will choose to attack the person who looks like me; sounds like me; has the same morals as me; was raised like me; reacts to things like me; carries himself like me; speaks to others like me; approaches things like me; etc etc...

and in any other random scenario where these people would've needed someone to feel angry at and i happened to be in the crossfires, they would've done the same to me. for the same exact reasons. they didn't try to see him as a person then and they won't try to see me past what they see on the surface now. and that's sort of the big bummer i've been wading through since the "bye youtube" vid
